The Mighty Adventures of Tank Boy

The Mighty Adventures of Tank Boy (Episode #1)

The following is the premier episode of a new SCUBA action adventure series involving Planet Ocean’s own SCUBA superhero entitled The Mighty Adventures of Tank Boy. This first story will introduce you to our super hero. Be sure to watch for new editions of Tank Boy, which will appear in every issue of our newsletter and also on our website at www.planetocean.nu.

Curt Kenwell alias Tank Boy, the son of Frank and Pauline Kenwell, had a humble start in life. During the 1960’s, Frank, a college professor from Pennsylvania, fell in love and married one of his students named Pauline. While on their honeymoon in the Bahamas Frank & Pauline decided to go for a swim in the ocean and this is where little Curt Kenwell (Tank Boy) was conceived (now you know why they say "it is better in the Bahamas").

Years later, Frank and Pauline decided to take a return trip to the Bahamas with their son Curt. Frank and Curt had taken a SCUBA course together and were looking forward to spending time together diving. Frank had planned a daylong diving trip hunting for sunken treasures. The first dive was to be on a sunken pirate ship. Frank and Curt had heard many tales behind the sunken ship, which included rumors of a cargo hold full of gold coins.

During their first dive Curt and Frank found some cannon balls and the ship’s bell. Hoping the next dive would bring doubloons, Curt and his father decided to swim deep into the bowels of the shipwreck. Frank and Curt became separated in the dark and silty waters inside the wreck. When Curt realized what had happened, he decided to go looking for his father. Spotting a bright light, Curt swam towards it. As Curt got closer he saw that the light seemed to be coming from inside an old pirate’s chest. Slowly opening the chest, Curt found a glowing gold amulet. Not being able to resist its beauty, Curt grabbed the amulet and continued his search for his missing father.

Suddenly, Curt found his father entangled just a few feet away. Curt pulled the pin on his Ponease pony bottle bracket and passed his pony bottle to his father. This gave Frank the much-needed air while Curt assisted him out of the shipwreck and back to the surface. Always conservative they ascended at a rate of 30 feet per minute to reduce the risk of getting bent. Once at the surface the Dive Supervisor and Curt pulled his shaking father out of the water and into the boat.

Back at the hotel Curt showed the amulet to his father and told him how he had found it. All the while Curt was thinking to himself how thankful he was able to recognize his father’s dilemma and be able to assist him before it was too late. Frank told Curt that watching him swim down the companionway into the room where he was trapped holding the pony bottle in his hand was like a watching an underwater super hero. Frank gave Curt the nick name "Tank Boy" and thus began The Mighty Adventures of Tank Boy.
