Another SCUBA mentor of mine has passed away. Actor Lloyd Bridges a.k.a. Mike Nelson from the TV show Sea Hunt passed away March 10, 1998 he was 85.

Lloyd Bridges starred in the television series Sea Hunt from 1958 - 1962. He played the an ex-Navy frogman Mike Nelson, turned underwater investigator and hero to many of us land lubbers. Bridges learned to SCUBA dive for the role and actually performed many of his own stunts.

It was less than a year ago, last June 1997, when Jacques Cousteau died and the world lost the father of SCUBA. Cousteau was a pioneering advocate of the world’s oceans and environmental awareness. Lloyd Bridges also turned his attention towards the environment and was active in American Oceans Campaign and Los Angeles based "Heal The Bay".

Bridges wanted to be remembered as someone who cared about "our Mother Earth" said son Beau Bridges. Both Beau and Brother Jeff made their on screen debuts on Sea Hunt.
